Privacy policy
How we handle your personal information under Australian privacy law. Last updated October 2026.
About this policy
Smart WiFi respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What we collect
When you request an estimate, book a site assessment or contact us, we may collect your name, business name, email address, phone number, site address, details about your premises and project, and any floor plans or photos you upload.
We also collect basic technical information when you use our website, such as browser type and pages visited, to keep the site secure and working properly.
We do not ask for sensitive information and ask that you don't include it in uploads or messages.
How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you through our website forms, by email or phone, and during site visits. You can contact us without identifying yourself, but we may then be unable to prepare an estimate or quote.
Why we use it
We use your information to respond to your enquiry, prepare estimates and quotes, plan and carry out installation work, provide support, keep business records and meet our legal obligations.
We only send marketing messages if you have opted in. Marketing consent is separate from your enquiry and every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information. We may share it with trusted service providers who help us run our business — for example website hosting, data storage and email delivery — and with subcontractors or suppliers where needed to complete your project. They may only use it for that purpose.
Some of our technology providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is handled consistently with the APPs.
We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law.
Storage and security
Enquiries, floor plans and photos are stored in access-controlled systems available only to authorised Smart WiFi staff. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, and we destroy or de-identify information we no longer need.
If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Access and correction
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days. If we refuse a request, we'll explain why.
Guest WiFi portals we install
Where we install a guest WiFi portal for a venue, the venue operator is generally responsible for the personal information its guests provide through that portal and for its own privacy policy.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first and we'll aim to resolve it promptly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
